Autobank (auto bank)
Banks owned by automobile manufacturers with the main purpose (practical effect) of financing customers in the purchase or leasing of a vehicle from their own company. In some cases, the business also extends to granting loans to suppliers. In comparisons of the terms and conditions of auto banks with other sources of financing, these specialized institutions generally performed less well worldwide. – See Bradford nationalization, corporate bank, group bank, private banks. – Cf. BaFin Annual Report 2008, p. 121 f. (problems of auto banks in the financial crisis), BaFin Annual Report 2010, p. 154 (end of scrapping premiums affects business).
