Payment by mail (mail transfer)
The delivery of money by the postal service (monetary payment by the postal service). In Germany, too, the postal service’s own postmen (CH: Pöstler; money letter carriers; Geldbriefträger) sought out the recipient – in some cases until 1995 – and handed him or her the corresponding sum in cash. The senders were mainly insurance companies and pension funds, but less frequently also companies – especially lottery companies – and private individuals. – See Geldbrief, Geldsendung, Konto für Jedermann, Postauftrag, Postkreditbrief, Unbanked, Zahlungsauftrag.
