The number of times a single unit of currency turns over [is spent] in a given period

geschrieben von am

In the case of means of payment, a measure of how often a unit of currency turns over [is spent] in a definite period of time in relation to the supply of goods. An increase ultimately has the same effect as an increase in the money supply. The central banks therefore monitor the velocity of circulation on an ongoing basis. – In the past, the velocity of circulation of circulation coins was generally many times that of circulation coins. – Cf. Monthly Report of the Deutsche Bundesbank of July 2007, p. 16 et seq. (change in velocity of circulation; forecasts), Monthly Report of the ECB of April 2010, p. 19 (velocity of circulation since 1981 compared with the yield curve).
