In ancient documents, an expense to buy fodder for animals. The carrion (without plural) is a formerly used word for cattle fodder. – Formerly, the one-time or ongoing payment for being exempted from soccage duty (soccage duty, corvée) to deliver cattle fodder, primarily oats (oats), millet (millet; formerly also called [the] brein as a hulled fruit), and hay (hay: grass that has been cut and dried to be used as food for animals) to the lordship in kind (in commodities) on certain due dates. – See liberation money, redemption, free purchase money, drudgery, dog money.
