Alms (alms)
A freely given personal gift (usually in money) to someone in need. – Today, the word and the cause have fallen into disrepute, mainly because – alms given voluntarily are seen as a contrast to legally regulated welfare aid, and – alms generate or promote mendicancy and idleness among the poor, as well as a conceited feeling among donors and almsgivers.
