Analyst rating
Recommendations made by analysts, especially at banks, for or against the purchase of a financial product. Depending on the size of the institution or the reputation of the analyst, these ratings can have a major influence on the price of the financial product (especially listed shares). In this context, certain English-language formulations of one or two words are commonly used worldwide, especially: Strong Buy = unconditional buy recommendation; Buy = buy recommendation; Hold = hold; Sell = sell recommendation; Strong Sell = unconditional sell recommendation, Accumulate = buy again (if the price falls). – See acataphasia, analyst influence, stock market language, financial analysis regulation, financial language, rating agencies. – Cf. BaFin Annual Report 2012, p. 164 f. (BaFin supervises analyst activities; continued trend toward purchasing analyst services rather than providing them oneself).
