Angst, perverse (perverse angst, perverse panic)

geschrieben von am

A phrase coined by ECB President Mario Draghi in an interview in December 2013 that spread very quickly (dictum: a popular saying). It refers to the fears of inflation among German citizens, who are particularly suspicious of the ECB’s monetary policy. However, fears in Germany that the value of money will be impaired by the rescue operations do not lack a factual basis. The fact that this was described as perverse, as pathological (angst-ridden), triggered anger in wide circles in Germany and also in the Netherlands. – In January 2014, Mario Draghi softened his statement. He said that the word „perverse“ in the English language in which he had expressed himself had the meaning „caught in error, „not factually based.“ –
