Avanie (extortion; unexpected minus)
In older financial terminology, the arbitrary extortion of money by dishonest officials (the practice of extorting money or other property, particularly by a public official). In Germany, however, such a practice is completely unknown, especially among the police. – That which one earns from a transaction less than was to be expected (an unsatisfactory, disappointing transcation). – See culling payment, rebate, bribe, protection money, hush money.
