Payment made by someone who withdraws from a contract (not synonymous with contrition money). – Usually a one-time payment to employees who voluntarily leave an employment contract, also referred to in this context as severance pay (golden handshake). – Payment by inner-city department stores and retail stores to street musicians and beggars so that they will refrain from playing music or begging in front of their locations, which discourages customers and annoys the staff. – In landlordship times, a payment by farmers in the form of money or in kind (venison) to the hunting lord so that he does not exercise his hunting rights in the area in question, thereby avoiding crop damages that often endanger the existence of the people concerned; also called sparing money. – See money, severance pay, stop money, agency problem, welcome money, beggar’s bell, detraction, barrel organ money, discharge
money, nuisance value, merrymaking fee, music money, money, premium business, dance concession money.
